Anchor Creation Sdn Bhd is a Malaysia-based industrial finishing company headquartered in Ulu Tiram, Johor Bahru. Since our establishment on 19 June 1999, we have built a steadfast reputation in the surface finishing industry, delivering quality coating services tailored to the diverse and specific needs of our clients.

Process Flow

Pre-Treating Process

Before any coating is applied, every product undergoes a rigorous pre-treatment process. This foundational stage ensures optimal surface preparation, promoting strong adhesion, long-lasting durability, and a flawless final finish. Here is how we, at Anchor Creation, ensure that your products go from prepped to pristine.

01Cleaning

The process begins with meticulous and thorough cleaning of each product. This critical first step removes contaminants and debris from the surface, ensuring that any subsequent coating bonds properly and performs as intended.

02Vapour Degreasing

Using pure distilled solvents, vapour degreasing eliminates oils and residues from the product through a sequence of a hot wash cycle, a cold wash cycle, and a final cold chemical vapour spray rinse. By the end of this stage, products are fully degreased and completely dry - eliminating the need for additional drying stages that are typically required in aqueous or semi-aqueous cleaning processes.

03Chemical Conversion Coatings

Phosphate coatings comprise tiny phosphate crystals that form a protective layer, retarding corrosion and promoting better adhesion for organic finishes such as paint and lacquers, as well as serving as a base for oils, waxes, and rust preventatives. This treatment can be applied to both ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces.

We offer three chemical conversion coating methods:

  • Iron Phosphate - The most commonly used pre-treatment process, producing a rough iron phosphate coating on ferrous surfaces and a micro-etched surface on non-ferrous surfaces to promote better bonding for additional coatings.
  • Zinc Phosphate - Enhances paint adhesion to the product and confers additional corrosion resistance, making it especially suitable prior to a dip or spin process.
  • Chromate and Non-Chromate Coating - Involves chromate phosphate, chromate oxide, or non-chromate systems applied in aluminium or zinc-coated steel conversion coating processes.
04Filling / Putty

Surface imperfections are addressed at this stage through careful filling of recessed areas and thorough sanding. This levels the surface uniformly, creating a smooth and even base that is essential for achieving a high-quality paint or coating finish.

05Masking

Masking is applied to shield specific areas of a product from coating - whether for decorative or functional purposes. We utilise three types of masking methods to suit varying production needs:

  • Masking Tapes
  • Rubber Mould Jigs
  • Solid Metal Jigs

The most appropriate jig is selected based on daily production output requirements and your individual specifications.

Finishing Process

A great finish doesn't happen by luck - it's created through precision with purpose. We pamper your every product with our deliberate finishing process, intentional with every step of the way. At the end of the day, a finish isn't just how your product turns out; it's a reflection of the standard we hold ourselves to. Here's how we make it happen.

01Spray Coating (Electrostatic Wet Spray)

Liquid paint is given an electric charge through a specialised gun with a power pack, causing it to be attracted to and adhere to the product via electrostatic charge. The coated product is then cured under optimum temperature and duration. Finishes are available in a wide range of colours and can be applied either manually or automatically.

For products where electrostatic spray is not feasible, they are hung or placed on racks for hand spraying. We operate four spray application systems to accommodate varying product types and production scales:

  • X-Y Auto Spray Machine - Products are placed systematically in a custom-made fixture beneath the machine, which maintains consistent spray paths at a controlled distance from the product. This delivers high efficiency and uniformity in coating thickness without compromising quality, making it the most recommended of our three methods.
  • Manual Spray Paint
  • Spindle Spray System
  • Robotic Arm Spray System

We also offer Powder Coating, where powder paint is applied directly onto the metal product via a powder spray gun, with particles charged electrostatically to adhere to the surface. The product is then heated to melt and fuse the particles into a high-quality, uniform protective finish that is both aesthetic and highly durable. Finishes are available in a variety of colours, glosses, and textures.

Our powder coating options include:

  • Epoxy
  • Polyester
  • Polyurethane
02Curing

Once coated, products undergo curing through one of two oven systems depending on your production requirements:

  • Conveyor Line Oven - A curing oven is connected to an overhead conveyor system, guaranteeing sufficient baking time of 20 to 30 minutes throughout. Products are laid on racks along the conveyor and coated either manually or automatically at the spray booth before being carried into the oven.
  • Box Oven - Preferred for low-volume curing cycles, sample runs, small-quantity trials, and single large-structure curing. Its key advantage lies in the time taken to reach optimum temperature, resulting in energy cost savings.
03Silk Screen Printing

Using epoxy inks, silk screen printing transfers letters, numbers, logos, or other markings onto painted products with precision and consistency. This step is incorporated into the process wherever product identification, branding, or decorative detailing is required - delivering sharp, durable prints that stand the test of time.

04Pad Printing

Pad printing is a versatile indirect printing method that transfers ink from an engraved plate onto a product's surface via a soft silicone pad. Particularly effective for printing on irregular, curved, or recessed surfaces where silk screen printing may not be suitable, pad printing ensures precise and consistent markings regardless of the product's shape or contour - making it the ideal solution for complex geometries that demand both accuracy and a clean finish.

Quality Inspection

At Anchor Creation, quality is never an afterthought. Every finished product undergoes a comprehensive series of inspection tests to verify coating adhesion, durability, appearance, and consistency - ensuring that what leaves our facility is a masterpiece you'd be proud of.

ACross-Cut Tape Test

This test is essential in determining the quality of bonding between the metal surface and its coating. A cross-cut of 1 mm2 over 100 squares is made on the coated surface, after which Nichiban or Nitto 100 tape is applied over the cross-cut area and removed with a quick pull action. Should any paint adhere to the tape upon removal, poor adhesion is indicated - and the product does not pass this stage.

BGloss Test

Surface glossiness is measured by directing a known amount of light at the coated surface and quantifying its reflectance. As a standard, gloss is measured at a 60 degree angle, or at a 20 degree angle for high-gloss finishes. To ensure the accuracy of every reading, all equipment is calibrated prior to each measurement taken.

CPencil Hardness Test

This test evaluates the scratch hardness of a coated surface. A pencil is applied at a 45 degree angle to the surface under a constant pressure of 7.5 Newtons (765 g), beginning with the hardest lead and progressing through softer grades. The hardness grade of the pencil that first causes visible damage to the surface is recorded as the scratch hardness value.

DColorimetry

Colour accuracy is verified by measuring the colour values L*, a*, and b* against a Master Colour Plate reference. A Delta E reading of 1 or below confirms that the colour of the finished product falls within acceptable specifications, ensuring visual consistency across all units produced.

EThickness Test

Coating thickness is measured in accordance with internationally recognised standards - ISO 2178 for ferrous materials and ISO 2360 for non-ferrous materials. This ensures that each product carries the correct coating thickness as required for both performance and compliance.

FIsopropyl Alcohol (IPA) Test

A cotton cloth saturated with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is rubbed against the coated surface using a 1 kg pressure tool. This test determines whether the product has been sufficiently cured and whether the paint has properly adhered to the surface - serving as a reliable final check before products are cleared for delivery.
